Gangloff
Switzerland - France (1903 - present)
Gangloff is a Swiss/French coachbuilding company currently based in Berne since 1928, which focusses on coachworks for trucks, public transport vehicles and funicular railway.
The company also performs car body repair and restorations.
The company was founded in 1903 by Georges Gangloff. Gangloff was one of the most important passenger vehicle coachbuilders after World War 1. They produced bodies for Martini, Rolls-Royce, Delage, Ansaldo, Hispano-Suiza, Isotta-Fraschini, Mercedes-Benz, Bugatti, Minerva and various other, also American, makes. Gangloff of Colmar, very near to Bugatti's home town Molsheim, also did several 'factory' bodies for Bugatti. Which of the Gangloff bodies are really Molsheim designs, and which aren't, is often not so clear.
Gangloff had establishments of branch works in Geneva, Zurich, Berne and Colmar in France.
With Gangloff Carrosserie, Gangloff Trailers and Gangloff Cabins, the company now has 3 divisions. The renaissance of funicular railways in the '70s made Gangloff an international operation. Today, you can climb mountains in Gangloff cabins all over the world, but unfortunately they don't design and build beautiful car bodies anymore like they did in the golden coachbuilding days.
